Important Online Safety Notice

As the holiday season approaches and students begin their winter break, we know many children will spend more time at home enjoying personal technology devices such as smartphones, tablets, and gaming systems. While these devices can provide entertainment and educational opportunities, the increased screen time also presents challenges, including exposure to online risks. This break offers a great opportunity to encourage healthy online habits and open conversations about safe and responsible technology use.

With that in mind, the RCMP has issued a notice regarding the dangers posed by violent online groups targeting children and youth, particularly those aged 8 to 17. These groups operate under a network called "The Com" and exploit widely accessible platforms such as Discord, Telegram, Roblox, and other social media or gaming apps. They aim to manipulate vulnerable individuals into acts of violence, self-harm, animal cruelty, and exploitation.
