School Zone Safety Reminder – September 1, 2026

With the start of the 2026-2027 school year just around the corner, we’re reminding drivers, pedestrians and families to take extra care around our schools.

School zones get busy, especially during drop-off and pick-up. More kids are walking and biking, school buses are coming and going, and lots of vehicles are trying to get where they need to be.

A few simple things can help keep everyone safe:

• Slow down and follow the posted speed limits.
• Be mindful of the 30 KPH Speed Zones, which operate Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (September to June).
• Keep an eye out for students crossing the street or walking near the road.
• Follow all traffic signs and directions from school patrols.
• Don’t stop or park in areas where it’s not allowed. It can create congestion and make it harder for students to see traffic.
• Give school buses plenty of room and never pass a bus when its red lights are flashing.
• Be patient during drop-off and pick-up. It may take a few extra minutes, but getting everyone to school safely is what matters.
