The week of October 21 to October 25, 2024, has been proclaimed as “Media Literacy Week” and October 23, 2024, as “Digital Citizen Day” in Manitoba by the Honourable Tracy Schmidt, Acting Minister of Education & Early Childhood Learning.

Raising awareness about digital and media literacy in schools is crucial to ensuring all students have the skills needed to use, understand, engage, access, and verify online information.

Educators, parents, and community members play an essential role in cultivating student's critical thinking skills, including the capacity to contextualize and critically evaluate digital media to make informed decisions.
