HSAP for Students & Parents
The High School Apprenticeship Program (HSAP) provides students with opportunities to explore skilled trades in a real and relevant setting. It enables students to start apprenticeship training while attending high school by combining regular high school instruction with paid, on-the-job training under the supervision of qualified tradespersons. Paid on-the-job HSAP hours count towards high school credits, Level 1 apprenticeship hours, and a possible exemption from post secondary technical training personal contribution fees.
The HSAP program provides practical, paid, work experience and the opportunity to:
- Explore a skilled trade under the mentorship of a qualified tradesperson;
- Earn up to 8 grade 12 credits towards graduation based on one credit per 110 working hours (up to 6 credits for mature students);
- Earn hours outside of school, including school breaks and over the summer;
- Receive a wage that is at least 10% over minimum;
- Receive advanced standing and fee exemptions in apprenticeship training after graduation; and
- Develop essential workplace skills for a successful career, particularly in skilled trades, management or to start your own business.
